Water shortage to continue in Lilongwe

Residents in Lilongwe , Malawi’s capital, will continue facing sporadic water supplies in the next three weeks due to the on-going rehabilitation works on broken pipes.

The problem which started last week is forcing residents to draw water from unprotected sources, therefore risking their lives to water borne diseases.

Lilongwe Water board public relations officer Trevor Phoya said the current power outages are also affecting the pumping of water in some parts of the city.

“Areas such as 22, 23, 36 and 24 will have little or no water at all as the board tries to work on the broken pipes,” Phoya told the Malawi News Agency.

Phoya has therefore asked people in the areas affected to be economical with water usage.
