Alex Chimwala of DPP accepts defeat in Blantyre City East Constituency

Shadow Member of Parliament for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Blantyre City East Constituency Alex Chimwala has conceded defeat in the Tuesday’s tripartite election.

According to unofficial results seen by faceofmalawi, former Member of Parliament for the Constituency John Bande has carried the day.

Writing on his official facebook page Chimwala hailed Bande for emerging victorious.

“I would like to congratulate Hon John Bande for being elected as MP for Blantyre City East Constituency. May the Mighty God in the name of Jesus guide you as you guide the development agenda of this beautiful Constituency. Once again congratulations,” wrote Chimwala.

Earlier before the polls, reports were all over social media that Bande has pulled out of the Parliamentary race due to illness and that he endorsed Chimwala.

But Bande trashed the rumours, saying the rumours were being spread with an ill-motive by his opponents.

Meanwhile the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) scheduled to announce official results today at 1pm.
