Chakwera rejects Presidential results:’For Malawi to rise Mutharika must go’

Main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has rejected the outcome of the May 21 polls which saw President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika being declared winner.

Chakwera said this during a media briefing currently underway at MCP headquarters in the capital Lilongwe.

“Today, I want to tell you that I, Lazarus Chakwera, reject the presidential results. I reject declaration of Mutharika as a winner.

“I have started filling a petition to the high court to nullify the results of the presidential election,” said Chakwera while attracting ululation from supporters gathered at the briefing.

He added: “The people who stole these elections for him [President Mutharika] were thinking that once he is sworn-in everything will be buried.

“For Malawi to rise Mutharika must go.”
