MCP supporters invade Mzuzu Street with peaceful protest

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters in collaboration with Peoples Party (PP) and Freedom Party supporters have invaded the street of Mzuzu to protest the outcome of the May 21 tripartite election which saw President Peter Mutharika being declared winner.

The supporters say they will be in the city’s streets for the whole day to show that they are not happy with the outcome of May 21 elections results.

The supporters have carried tree branches and placards with messages that the elections had many irregularities.

MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and United Tranformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima are accusing the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of rigging the May 21 polls.

The two parties have since filed a law suit demanding nullification of the May 21 polls.

The two parties have also asked for the immediate resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah for administering fraudulent polls.
