Lilongwe City Councils says yes to Thursday demonstrations

The Lilongwe City Council has given Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) a go ahead to hold peaceful protest in the city this coming Thursday.

HRDC together with concerned Malawians will on Thursday hold national wide protest to force Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah to immediately resign for administering the most fraudulent polls in the history of Malawi.

HRDC through its Chairperson Timothy Mtambo wrote the Lilongwe City Council notifying them of the said demonstrations last week.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the LCC Chief Executive Officer John Chome has given the HRDC a go ahead but with conditions.

One of the human right defenders Billy Mayaya has confirmed receiving a go ahead from Lilongwe City Council on the demonstrations.
