Construction on Chipembere Highway resumes

Construction works on the Masauko Chipembere Highway have resumed after a break of over six months.

The construction of the dual carriage which will run from Chichiri round about to Illovo in Limbe was scheduled to be completed by December last year.

A Japanese construction firm, Nippo Corporation cited the shortage of forex and fuel that characterised the Mutharika regime as some of the reasons that delayed the timely completion of the project.

Blantyre city Council’s Director of Engineering Services, Francis Namonjeza told the media that they are now engaging the contractors to have adequate reserves of fuel and cement as one way of dealing with unnecessary disruptions.

The project will cost the government 800 million Japanese Yen and is expected to be finalised in May next year.
