International Media Twists Kajoke’ Chicken Gift Picture, Says it was Given as Man of the Match Award by League Management

A picture of Nyasa Big Bullets’ striker Hassan Kajoke receiving a chicken as a gift after his team’ victory over Karonga United in TNM Super league has caught the attention of international media and thereby being misinterpreted.

It was earlier reported that the Nyasa Big Bullets striker received the alleged chicken as a gift from a fan who was impressed with his performance during the match on Sunday where his team defeated Karonga United 5 – 0.

The picture went viral online after it was shared.

However, the story has been twisted as reported by other international media saying that the Chicken was offered as a “Man of the Match Award” by the Match’ sponsor.

One of the international news portal twisting the story is a Nigeria’ Lailasblog which wrote the story with a misreading headline that reads, “Malawian Player Receives Chicken as Man of the Match Award.”

The online news site reports that the league management had set up the chicken as a gift to a player of the match.

“The league management had earlier said that the award was given by a sponsor. However, because the photo attracted a lot of comments on social media, the Malawian league website came out to say that the chicken was given to Kajoke by a fan who was impressed by his performance in the match,” wrote the Nigerian website.

Meanwhile, some people in the country have condemned the the act at stadium on Sunday saying this would depicts as if Malawian football is not that serious having being bringing gifts like chicken to players instead of other things that would be taken serious even by other people outside Malawi.

The debate is ongoing on social media.
