Inspector General of Police Rodney Jose has demanded evidence from people who are accusing him of being a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadet.

Jose made the demand during a joint press briefing organized by the Malawi Police and Malawi Defense Force (MDF) in Lilongwe.

“We demand that those making these accusations produce evidence of such,” Jose said.

Jose further added that the police have never trained the DPP cadets and equipped them with arms as police officers.

Responding on the calls of his resignation, Jose said he only resign when appointing authorities say he has failed to perform as Inspector General of Police.

On July 26, the IG issued a press statement asking Human Rights defenders Coalition to suspend demonstrations the move angered a lot of people who started calling for Jose’s resignation.
