Red Cross says 500 People Suffered Injuries During Demos

Malawi Red Cross Society has disclosed that over 500 people suffered various degrees of injuries during the Tuesday’s mass protests in the country’s three major cities.

The humanitarian organization says the victims suffered exhaustion, teargas and chaotic scenes that characterized the protests.

The mass protest which was organized by Human rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) was planned to be peaceful but ended in riots where there was running battles between the police and the protesters.

Tuesday protests was more destructive specifically, in the capital Lilongwe where a lot of Public and private properties were destroyed including police houses.

HRDC has been organizing nationwide demonstrations calling for resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson and all MEC commissioners for allegedly mismanaging May 21 elections.
