MCP angry with desecration of Kamuzu mausoleum

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has come out to speak against the desecration of former president Kamuzu Banda’s mausoleum in City Centre, Lilongwe blaming Democratic Progressive Party cadets, youth operatives of the ruling party as the perpetrators.

This is despite the party calling the Tuesday demonstrations as ‘peaceful and lawful’ adding they will go down in Malawis history as a day of reckoning for the corrupt and crumbling DPP regime.

The party’s spokesperson Reverend Maurice Munthali said: “…a few criminals and lawless individuals, who fit the profile of cadets, managed to infiltrate the ranks of the protests.”

Munthali said they believe it is these criminals who harassed a female police officer and stripped her of her clothing, exposing her to public disgrace and trauma.

“…While 95 percent of those marching on the streets did so peacefully in accordance with the organisers’ protocols and orientation for peaceful conduct, these few lawless individuals used the occasion as an opportunity to discredit and stain the protests by vandalising shops belonging to innocent and hardworking citizens, even though many in the private sector are in support of the right of Malawians to protest peacefully,” he said.

Munthali explained going forward they will double their efforts to root out any people they suspect to be cadets and want to cause havoc.
