Timber Millers members holding peaceful protest in Chikangawa

Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that members of Timber Millers are holding peaceful protest demonstrating in Chikangawa Forest to force government to accord them their right to benefit from the forest.

The members have since sealed Department of Forestry offices in Chikangawa.

Timber Millers members are accusing government of favouring foreigners in harvesting trees within the 53,000 hactres Viphya Plantation.

Last week the grouping held a meeting with Energy and Mining Minister Binton Kutsaira on the matter and he promised to report back to the grouping.

But according to one of the members, Kutsaira is yet to inform the grouping about the way forward on the issue.

More details to follow..
