LWB IN DIRE NEED OF 40BILLION KWACHA

Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) has said it requires over 40billion kwacha to implement various projects aimed at addressing water challenges in the district.

Engineer Alfonso Chikuni who is also Chief Executive officer for the board has said replacement of water pipes which are old for almost 50 years now are some of the priority areas.

He was speaking on Friday during a World Bank Lilongwe Water and Sanitation project awareness meeting for Lilongwe parliamentarians and ward councilors as water challenges continue to worsen in most parts of Lilongwe.

 “As authorities we have reiterated the need to have lasting solution, also considering that the city faces rapid population growth. About USD500 million is need to meet the challenges the board goes through. We will soon call for an investment forum aiming at raising funds for the project in November,” said Chikuni.

Lilongwe City Mayor Juliana Kaduya conquered with Chikuni saying the project is very significant to Lilongwe city since there is need to increase access to clean water in the city.  

“Lilongwe city faces a lot of water challenges but the coming of this project will reduce the problem. Iam happy with the coming project because the city will be eased of the problem,” said Kaduya.

The salima Lilongwe water project is one of the project that are stuck due to financial challenges.
