Police in Dowa are hunting for unknown woman who dumped a baby girl after delivery at Dowa District Hospital.
Dowa police public relations officer, Sub-Inspector Gladson M’bumpha said the incident happened on September 24 2019 near Dowa District Hospital graveyard.
“Police investigations revealed that on the particular day one of the patient attendants at District Hospital was going home from his garden and when he was passing the graveyard, he heard a baby crying coming from beneath a shrub.
“This prompted the patient attendant to go close where he found the baby with only a cloth wrapped around the waist and it had rubbish all over the body and ants had also started attacking it,”explained the PRO.
The patient attendant later rushed home to get some pieces of cloth and covered it and when he was covering it, he noticed that it had a cord clamp which meant that the delivery was done at the hospital.
The patient attendant later took the baby to Dowa District Hospital Post Natal Ward for proper check up of the baby and treatment.
Meanwhile, the baby is at Dowa District Hospital and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
