The African Computer

Ron Eglash is an ethno-mathematician, he studies the way math and cultures intersect. Eglash discovered that many African villages are purposely laid out to form perfect fractals, with self-similar shapes repeated in the rooms of the house, and the house itself, and the clusters of houses in the village, in mathematically predictable patterns.

He got a grant to visit East Africa and do a research on the topic of self organization, He found evidence that African fractals are responsible for most African designs, Culture and even the game BAWO.   Dr Ron Eglash already has a school running in Ghana using computers that use African fractals to teach young student Mathematics.
