Mwapasa says police yet to interview Msundwe rape victims

Acting Inspector General of Police, Duncan Mwapasa has disclosed that the police are yet to interview victims of the alleged rape in Msundwe, Mpingu and M’bwatalika.
Mwapasa disclosed this when he was appearing before the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus on the alleged rape allegations by police officers.
He said they are finding it hard to interview the victims because they have refused to be interviewed by police.
Asked to explain on the rape allegations levelled against police officers, Mwapasa said in the Police Service there is zero tolerance to sexual abuse hence, once investigations are completed the perpetrators will be brought to book.
He also said that Police used force to arrest people in Msundwe because they were rioting and not demonstrating. “Whenever there are riots police use reasonable force,” Mwapasa said.
In the morning, the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus met with the NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGO-GCN).
