‘MEC deliberately delayed Chakwera’s stronghold results’ –Witness

In the on-going presidential election case, fourth witness for Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday afternoon told the court that there was a deliberate move in delaying presidential results in areas where Chakwera was in the lead.

The witness, Anthony Bendulo, also told the court there were alterations in duplicate copies of result tally sheets.

During cross examination with Kalekeni Kaphale, he singled out results sheets from Kwabwabwa polling centre where he cited direct rigging.

On the form, he noted that some votes for Lazarus Chakwera in the polling centre were transferred to Saulos Chilima, without apparent reasons.

He further stated that results for Umodzi President John Chisi at Kabwabwa were also misplaced.

Meanwhile the case is set to resume this morning.
