Court slaps three people with four years jail sentence for vandalizing MTL cables

Limbe Magistrate Court has sentenced three people to serve a four year jail term for vandalizing Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) cables worth millions kwacha.

Sungeni Lele, Patrick Chingwalu and Chimwemwe Payekha committed the offence on November 13 this year.

The trio according to the police were caught in the process of cutting an MTL cable at Limbe ADMARC.

The three appeared before Limbe magistrate court where they pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft, but the state paraded four witnesses.

The state pleaded with the court to give them a stiffer sentence saying huge sums of tax payers’ money is lost through such vandalism.
