Teachers take to the street to protest over unpaid December salaries in Zomba

Primary School teachers in Zomba have taken to the street to express their anger over government failure to pay about 5 thousand teachers their December 2019 salaries.

According to reports from ministry of education the 5000 were deliberately removed from payroll for failing to submit national Identity cards.

The teachers in Zomba are marching to the District Commissioner’s Office to present their grievances and pupils from various schools have joined the protest.

However, in Nkhotakota, teachers are divided on whether they should put their tools down or not. Some teachers were seen teaching as others took to the streets.

Some head teachers saybthey were not notified of the industrial action hence instructed the teachers to work.
