In a bid to fight hunger, government has revealed plans to increase 38.8 Billion Kwacha budget for response and recovery plan for families who are prone to hunger.
This has been revealed by officials from Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), following an increased number of people likely to be affected by hunger who are mounting to 1.8 million.
Commenting on the matter, Fwawupi Mwafongo, Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer for DoDMA said the revised budget will be drawn soon and is expected to meet the needs of people who are at risk of hunger.
According to Mwafongo, so far the needed tonnes for maize have already been revised upwards from 33 thousand metric to 57 thousand metric.
Meanwhile District Council for Karonga Paul Kalilombe has urged DODMA to focus on promoting resilience rather than pumping much of resources in response and recovery.
