TUM calls off teachers strike

Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) has suspended the national wide sit-in teachers were holding over delayed 2019 December salaries.

This has been confirmed in a statement signed by TUM Secretary General Charles Kumchenga made available to Faceofmalawi reporter.

According to the statement, the strike has been suspended because government has deposited salaries of the affected teachers.

“Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) wishes to inform all public primary, Secondary school teachers and lecturers, in all the public Teacher Training Colleges (TTC) that it has suspended the national wide strike which was in the form of SIT-IN and demonstrations,” reads in part the statement.
