The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has made a number of demands in line with the Constitutional Court Judgment delivered on February 3, 2020 in Lilongwe.
The demands have been during a press briefing the coalition had this morning as part of their comment on the court’s decision.
HRDC has demanded that Parliament must pass the electoral reform bill in its entire package just as the constitutional Court commanded when delivering its ruling that one must be declared winner based on a 51+1 account.
Secondly, HRDC has demanded “Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Jane Ansah should step down together with her entire commission and the Chief Elections Officer (CEO) Sam Alfandika for messing up the May 2019 presidential election.”
Those that are alleged to mess up with the elections HRDC has not left any of them out as the coalition has demanded that “there should be personal liability for those who messed the election.”
The Anti-Corruption Bureau’s (ACB) name has seen itself been dragged on the list of issues HRDC want to be dealt with following the Judges bribery attempt hence the call for ACB to bring all the suspects to book.
The Msundwe rape incident has also been a center of interest by the coalition as it has asked the Malawi Police Services (MPS) to arrest all police officers who are implicated in the incident, and also demanding that the police must establish an independent complaints commission to be responsible for such issues.
Lastly HRDC, has vowed to monitor the implementation of the election case ruling delivered on Monday, February 3, 2020 in Lilongwe.
