HRDC to hold vigil at Parliament from Wednesday

The Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) led by its Chairperson Timothy Mtambo will from Wednesday hold a vigil at Parliament until legislators pass electoral reform bills as ordered by the Constitutional Court.

On February 3, 2020, the Constitutional Court nullified the May 21, 2019 Presidential polls and called for fresh elections within a period of 150 days.

The Court also ordered Parliament to discuss and pass the electoral reform bills including the much awaited 50+1 electoral bill to restore sanity in the country.

According to information at hand, Parliament will today start deliberating on the bills as announce by leader of the house Kondwani Nankhumwa.

Speaking during media briefing in the capital Lilongwe Mtambo urged Malawians to congregate at Parliament for the vigils aimed at forcing Parliament to pass the bills.

HRDC also condemned the DPP’s demonstrations in Blantyre for threatening the judges who sat as a Constitutional Court and nullified the 2019 presidential poll.
