Chilima speaks out on Alliance

United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima has said the party is still weighing on possibility of forming coalition with other political parties ahead of fresh election as ordered by the constitutional court on February 3, 2020.

Last week the social media was awash with reports that Chilima has agreed to be a runningmate of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in the fresh polls.

The reports further said that Muhammad Sidik Mia has been relegated to the post of Second Vice President in the grand coalition.

Addressing thousands of UTM supporters at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe, Chilima emphasized that he is open to coalitions but only where parties involved would come up with a blueprint encompassing the needs and desires of Malawians.

“Let us have patience. We are discussing others and when everything is done the nation will be informed accordingly,” said Chilima.

Chilima said the former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi achieved the 50+1 and late Bingu Wa Mutharika also achieved it without forming any alliance.

He also called for the need to respect the laws of the land, particularly when it comes to the three arms of government; Judiciary, Executive and Legislature.
