CHANCO students file for injunction against Mutharika’s directive to close all schools over COVID-19

Some four Chancellor College students have filed an application with the courts in Zomba challenging closure of their school as part of government measures to avoid spread of the coronavirus in Malawi.

On Friday last week, President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika declared state of national disaster in Malawi over coronavirus.

In the directive, Mutharika restricted public gatherings to less than 100 people in light of the disease, which has already been recorded in neighbouring Zambia and Tanzania.

He also ordered that all schools should close by Monday March 23 which is today but this did not go down will with Chanco students hence filing for an injunction.

An interparte hearing has been scheduled for the 27th of March,2020.
