Red Cross Employees Arrested for Theft In Chikwawa

Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody four men for allegedly stealing 209 bags of cement worth over K1.4 million belonging to Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS).

The four include an office assistant, Anderson Batumeyo, and three security guards: Rodney Falera, Vasco Kabu and Kaliyofasi Njinga.

Chikwawa Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Dickson Matemba said on March 6, a MRCS Stores Clerk was stock-taking when he found some shortages.

“He checked the guardroom where he found a master key which the suspects used to open the stores illegally.

“The clerk reported the matter to police on 16 March which led to investigations and arrest of the four,” said Matemba.

The district’s police publicist said the suspects will appear in court after completion of the paperwork to answer the charge of theft by servant which contravenes Section 286 of the Penal Code.
