Nurses, Midwives at Mangochi District Hospital down tools

Nurses and Midwives Technicians at Mangochi District Hospital have started staging a sit in to force government to improve their working conditions.

Chairperson for nurses Mangochi chapter Peter Kumitengo says they are not happy that the Govenment is taking time to implement some of the measures to protect them from Covid-19 pandemic.

The sit in will likely affect expectant mothers at the hospital’s maternity wing, which delivers an average of 35 babies per day.

In a related development, health workers strike at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in the commercial capital Blantyre has entered a third week.

The strike has affected the operations of the hospital as patients have started leaving the hospital.

Faceofmalawi visited the hospital and found out that some wards are deserted.
