A 45 year old man is reported dead after being hit by a motor vehicle in Dowa.
Police in Dowa has confirmed of the accident and identified the deceased Charles Kayemba from Katanga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa.
According to the law enforcers, the accident happened in the wee hours of Friday at Themba Bridge along Dowa-Chezi Road in the district.
The vehicle is said to have been coming from the direction of Dowa Boma heading to Chezi Trading Centre.
“Upon reaching at Themba Bridge, the unknown vehicle hit the pedestrian Charles Kayemba (now deceased) who was walking along the same road heading the same direction. Instead of stopping, the vehicle sped off,” reads in part the police report.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead upon arrival at Dowa District Hospital.
Meanwhile the law enforcers have launched a manhunt for the suspected vehicle and the driver.
