MCTU Calls Authorities to Reduce Fuel Prices

Malawi Congress of Trade Unions (MCTU) has reiterated its calls for the authorities to reduce fuel prices further as transport costs remain high due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Last month, transport authorities issued a drastic passenger capacity cap on all public vehicles to ensure minimum physical contact as a means of containing the spread of coronavirus.
The development forced public transport operators to push up commuter fares, causing some people to opt for walking long distances as they cannot afford the revised fare.
President Peter Mutharika ordered Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) to reduce fuel prices hence forcing public transport operators to also reduce fares.
