Malawi Police Hunts Man Who Embezzled Over One Million Kwacha in Likoma

Police in Likoma are hunting for a 30– year –old man, Emmanuel Joe Kaunda for allegedly embezzling over a million kwacha between May 2 and 10, 2020.

According to Likoma Police Station Relation Officer, Sub inspector Mcliff Ngulube, Medson Gavanala who is the schemes Manager at Likoma Water Users Association told the police that the suspect was given the said cash meant for labourers’ salaries to deposit into the association’s account in Mzuzu.

“Gavanala further said that when he demanded the screenshot of the deposit slip from the suspect, who works as a cashier, he neither sent nor picked phone calls.

“On Saturday, May 9, 2020 the reporter discovered via E-mail that the suspect deposited only K200,000.00 out of the cash he took,” said the PRO.

Following this, Gavanala reported the matter to police at Likoma where the law enforcers immediately instituted  investigations.

When arrested, Kaunda will be charged with an offence of theft by public servant contrary to section 286 of the Penal Code.

Nicknamed Oga Willo, he comes from Chiwoko village, traditional authority Mkumpha 3 in Likoma.

Police in the district are asking the general public to report to any nearest police formation if they have knowledge of his whereabouts.
