Teachers Plead With Govt to Re-open Schools

Teachers Association of Malawi (TUM) has said there is a need for government to consider re-opening of schools in the country.

This has been said few days after government through the ministry of education stressed that schools will not be opened anytime soon due to the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Speaking in an interview with TUM chairperson Charles Kumchenga said government should also consider allocating risk allowance for teachers once schools are opened.

Meanwhile, a special committee has been established to come up with the right time to re-open schools.

The committee has been established yesterday following a meeting the ministry of education held with stakeholders in the education cycle.

As it stands Malawi has so far registered 63 cases including 3 deaths, 24 recoveries and 36 active cases.
