HRDC welcomes Jane Ansah’s resignation

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has welcomed the resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Jane Ansah but the grouping has vowed to proceed with the national wide protest slated for May 28, 2020.

On Thursday night, Ansah told the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) that he has tendered her resignation to President Peter Mutharika and is waiting for response.

But writing on his official facebook page, one of the HRDC’s executive members Billy Mayaya said the grouping wants all MEC commissioners to step aside.

“Pepani a Malawi anzanga, koma I don’t trust this woman. Why didn’t she summon all media houses to announce this resignation? Koma we are waiting for the rest of the incompetent MEC to thrown in the towel as well,” wrote Mayaya.
HRDC organized national wide demonstrations on May 28 to force Ansah to resign from her post as she has done.
