Baby Found Alive In Pitlatrine In Dowa

Police in Dowa are looking for unknown woman who allegedly threw her new born baby into a pit latrine.

The incident took place last Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Jesuit Refugee Services Office within Dzaleka Refugee Camp in the district, confirmed Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO).

“On the particular day, one of the security officers working for Jesuit Refugee Service went to answer a call of nature where he heard a baby crying inside the pit latrine.

The matter was reported to police who in turn visited the scene and with assistance from the community, they managed to retrieve the baby by digging the pit latrine.” Said M’bumpha

“After the baby was retrieved, it was immediately handed over to Dzaleka Health Centre where nurses established that it was a baby boy weighing 2.7 kilograms.” Said Sub Inspector M’bumpha who indicated that the baby is receiving further medical examination at Dowa District Hospital.
