MEC Will Not Block Local Observers to Monitor Elections – Chibwana

Fresh Presidential elections Situation room Consortium Chairperson Boniface Chibwana has said Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will not block local observers to monitor elections as it is being speculated by people..

He was speaking during press briefing after the launch of the Consortium at Mount Soche Hotel in the commercial city of Malawi, Blantyre “under the Theme: Using Technology to achieve Free and fair Accessible and Credible elections”.

“We want to assure the public that we have discussed with MEC that local observers will be allowed to roll at all polling centres across the country without hustles,” said Chibwana who also Coordinator for catholic Commission for  Peace and Justice (CCJP)

He said at intervention desk, they will work with MDF and Police, Malawi human Rights Commission, Political Parties representatives to make sure that they smooth running of elections.

“Our observers will report violence to intervention desk and any irregularities in the polling centers,” he said.

Executive Director National Initiative Civic Education (NICE) Ollen Mwalubunju said the public is free to patronize the room to inspect the progress but with COVID-19, people must observe preventing measures to avoid further spread of the pandemic.
