Ministry of Education Admits Closure of Schools to Affect Students

Ministry of Education has admitted that closure of schools due to the novel coronavirus will have a negative impact on students.

Minister responsible for Education, Agnes Nyalonje said this during a familiarization meeting with heads of various private institutions of higher learning in Blantyre.

Former president Peter Mutharika ordered the closure of schools in March this year in the wake of the pandemic.

It is unclear when the schools will open following a spike in Coronavirus cases in the country through local transmissions.

At least 7274 teenage girls in Mangochi have become pregnant from January to June this year.

The figure is higher by 1039 girls when compared with those who became pregnant in similar period last year.

Youth friendly health services coordinator for Mangochi Peter Malipa says 166 of the girls are aged between 10 to 14 years.
