Kenyan nurse in US arrested in connection to inmate’s death

Six people, among them a Kenyan nurse, have been arrested and are being indicted on charges of manslaughter, criminal negligent homicide and tampering with government records in connection to an inmate’s death at the Midland County Jail.

Lilian Okeri, 27, and five other nurses have been charged in the death of Savion Hall, who died in July, 2019, at a hospital in Texas.

Okeri was an LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) at the time of the inmate’s death, but has since become a Registered Nurse (RN).

Others charged alongside Okeri, are Adeola Adesomi, 41, Flor Estrada, 30, Timothy Forbush, 28, Kelly Robins, 52, and Esther Ihediwa, 45.

The six, according to court documents, are being accused of failing to maintain proper and adequate records for the victim to get proper medical care.

The second charge according to CBS 7, states that, by failing to keep medical records, Hall did not receive the “proper medical care.”

The six individuals, are also accused of making false entries on Hall’s medical records.

According to court documents, Texas Rangers were called in to investigate the death of Hall who was in the custody of the detention center.

The investigation was then turned over to the Texas Rangers. After a lengthy investigation, the case was presented to the Midland County District Attorney’s Office.

As a result of restrictions due to Covid-19, the State could not present the case to a Grand Jury until this summer.
