Police impounds 111 bags of Indian Hemp in Nkhotakota

Police in Nkhotakota have seized 111 bags of Indian hemp from traffickers who were reportedly to have been destined for Blantyre.

This is the first time for such a huge consignment to be confiscated at once.

Dwangwa police Publicist, Laban Makalani said police managed to seize the truck carrying the illicit drug following a tip through the Ndakuona toll free line.

“Our officers mounted a snap roadblock at Luwalazi on Monday and they managed to impound the 10 tonner lorry, registration number TO 3825, carrying 111 bags of Indian hemp,” said Makalani.

He said both driver of the vehicle and the passengers escaped but a few minutes later another vehicle with two passengers arrived at the scene claiming to own the lorry and attempted to bribe the police officers.

But their offer was turned down and police arrested them.

Mr Makalani has identified the two suspects as Ali Abudul aged 32 and Mr Harrison Banda aged 23.
