Three arrested in Nigeria for allegedly selling boy

The Kano Zonal Office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has arrested three persons in Kano for allegedly selling a one-year-old boy in Imo State.

The suspects are the Fagge Hisbah Commander, Jamilu Mohammed; the Fagge Ward Head, and a woman who bought the boy, identified as Mrs Loveth.

The NAPTIP Zonal Commandant, Shehu Umar, told journalists that the three principal suspects were invited to answer questions over the incident.

It was gathered that the victim, who was abandoned by his parents, was put in the custody of the Hisbah board.

However, the commander allegedly connived with the ward head and sold him.

According to the NAPTIP commandant, the boy, who was allegedly sold to Mrs Loveth by the Hisbah commander and the Fagge ward head, was rescued from Loveth’s mother in Imo State.

Umar said Loveth’s mother was also in NAPTIP’s custody.

“After receiving a report on the issue, we launched an investigation which led to the arrest of Mrs Loveth’s mother in Imo State,” he added.

He said though all the suspects had been granted bail, the case attracted five year’s imprisonment with a fine of N2m.
