Chanthunya sentencing shifted to Friday

Information reaching this publication indicates that sentencing of Misozi Chanthunya has been shifted to Friday, September 4.

The High Court in Zomba convicted Chanthunya of murdering his girlfriend Linda Gasa, a fourth year student at Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) in Blantyre in 2010.

Lawyer for Chanthunya, Michael Goba Chipeta confirmed of the changes in an interview with the press.

According to Chipeta, there was a mix up on dates.

Chipeta said today both defence and state are supposed to give case authorities regarding submissions on sentencing. The two parties earlier gave oral submissions without case authorities.

The state is praying for life imprisonment while the defence says the court should be lenient as Chamthunya is a first offender.
