MHRC Pens Minister of Information To Clear Some Issues Before ATI Law Is Operationalised

The Malawi Human Rights Commission has written minister of information Gospel Kazako to clear out some issues before Access to Information law is fully operationalised.

This comes as the law is expected to be in operation from this Wednesday as Kazako had appointed the date in an initial communication.

However, the MHRC argues that there has not been enough sensitization on how the law will operate.

According to MHRC Chairperson, Patrick Semphere, they feel that there is need for masses to be civic education before the law comes into full swing.

Semphere, says they want the ministry to ensure that all processes to enforce the law are in order including recruiting information officers.

However, currently, the ministry of information has flown an advert inviting people to apply for information officer positions.

The HRDC has since given the ministry two months to iron out these concerns before the law starts being implemented.
