Remains of Albino Man exhumed in Ntcheu

Sorrow has engulfed the Zakaria family as unknown people have exhumed the body of late Magistrate Edna Zakaria in Ntcheu district.

Until her death in 2019, Zakaria a person with albinism was working as a magistrate at Mulunguzi court in Zomba.

But this morning, Mernard Zakaria brother to the late Edna has told us they have found Edna’s coffin exhumed with only the head inside it.

“We went back to the grave only to find the head of our beloved with the other body parts removed whe we thought she was resting in peace’,he said.

Zakaria has further told MIJ online the incident has left the family members in disbelief.

“It’s disheartening and mental torture of highest level. Think about us, think about her 9 year old daughter” worried Zakaria.

Meanwhile, Ian Simbota President for Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) says the association is investigating the incident.

Since 2014, there have been cases of attacks, abduction and killings of albinos in Malawi in the wake of rise of superstitions that albino body parts are used to make people successful and rich as assisted by witch doctors.

It is alleged that most tradition doctors demanding this come from Mozambique although the government there has declined of that connection.
