Chanco students boycott classes

Students at Chancellor College in Zomba, a constituent college of the University of Malawi (Unima), on Monday started boycotting classes, citing government’s delay in addressing their concerns. The students said they want government to address students’ loan issues and tuition fees increase. Unima Council in conjunction with the Malawi Government announced the hike in tuition fee from K25 000 to K55 000 for government sponsored students. Newly elected Students Union of Chancellor College (Succ) president Israel Masiyano said they are waiting for response to a petition addressed to the President Joyce Banda which was presented to the district commissioner’s office in Zomba on October 24 2012.
