A hippopotamus on Sunday killed a 12-year-old-boy who went fishing in Chintheche dam in Nkhata Bay. Nkhata Bay Police spokesperson Martin Bwanali yesterday identified the deceased as Cheriton Banda of Viwanga Village, Tradition Authority Fukamalaza in the district. Bwanali said the hippo hit the canoe the boy and his friend were using and the two fell in the water. He said Banda was torn into pieces by the hippo, but his friend managed to Swim. He said people failed to rescue the boy as the dam is also infested with crocodiles.
