JB asks South Korea to help Malawi

Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica), a centralised organisation that implements and monitors Korea assistance programmes under auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Trade in South Korea, has been asked to open offices in Malawi.

Speaking to during a press conference Friday in South Korea, President Joyce Banda said talks with South Korea’s president Lee Myung-Bak had been fruitful and that she had requested her counterpart to let Koica open offices in Malawi as it’s currently difficult to access funding for different development projects from that country’s organisations.

“I’ve asked President Lee for the opening of Koica and I’m informed that in fact they didn’t open an office because we didn’t ask. They don’t open an office in a country where they haven’t received any request,” said Banda.
