Ntakataka Police Training School To Be Used As Quarantine Center For Returnees

Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has said government is likely to use Ntakataka Police Training School for quarantining returnees as Covid-19 cases surge in the country.

Kandodo Chiponda said this yesterday during a Covid-9 update in Lilongwe along with other members in the Presidential Covid-19 Taskforce.

However, Kandodo Chiponda said the talks to use the Training School as Covid-19 Quarantine Centre are still underway with the Ministry of Homeland Security hoping to reach its conclusion today, January 6.

The Minister further added that apart from Ntakataka Police Training School, Government is also looking for other places to be used for such cause.

She justified their decision to turn the Training School in quarantine center saying that they needed a safe and secure place in which those in mandatory quarantine cannot bolt the premises.

Last year, government turned Kamuzu Stadium as a quarantine centre, however, the returnees escaped from the Stadium citing poor treatment among others as the reason influenced their decision.

Not seeing history repeating itself, hence the decision to use Ntakataka Police Training School considering that it will have enough security.

Reacting to the decision, most Malawians on social media have cautioned government over the decision for a fact that the facility might be in use very soon as the Malawi Police Service (MPS) is scheduled to recruit police officers and the facility is used to train them.
