Chakwera Thanks Citizenry For Effort Put in Covid-19 Fight

As the fight against the global pandemic has stiffen, President Lazarus Chakwera has thanked efforts put by the citizenry by raising funds and mobilizing materials to be allocated to health facilities across the country.

Chakwera was speaking yesterday at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe in a televised broadcast to the nation.

Two weeks ago, the Malawi leader invited all people and international organizations to make donations to the country to help in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic which has devastated the world.

Following Chakwera’s call a number of people and corporate world have been seen donating to different hospitals in the country.

Onjezani Kenani, a France based Malawian also set up an initiative which has seen collecting millions of kwachas in a week which are being used to buy oxygen cylinders and other needed medicine for covid-19 patents in the country’s major hospitals.

Chakwera also thanked the treasury for respecting his call and released K17.52 billion for urgent response to the recent spikes of the pandemic experienced in the country.

The President says currently, a total of 100 oxygen cylinders and flow metres have been procured. He has disclosed that negotiations with a supplier for bulk purchase of 1000 of the same medical supplies are on course.
