Malawi Police Hailed For Arresting People Who Killed Person With Albinism In Mangochi

The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has commended the Malawi Police Service for acting swiftly in arresting people involved in the murder of a 26 year old person with albinism in Mangochi.

In a statement seen by this publication, MHRC’s Executive Secretary Habiba Osman said the police moved in quickly to arrest the culprits, a gesture to be recognized.

According to Osman, the Commission received the devastating news of disappearance of Said Futon Dayton, a person with albinism who was hailing from Kadewere Village in the district.

“The Commission would like to commend the Malawi Police Service (MPS) for their quick response to the matter where three suspects have since been arrested,” Osman said.

However, Osman said the Commission is still concerned with failure to conclude high profile albinism cases.

The commission has therefore asked the judiciary to expedite and conclude the cases.

“On pending cases in courts and with enforcement agencies, it is important to note that the Commission is still deeply concerned with lack of conclusion of a number of high profile albinism cases,” read the statement.
