A notorious Zimbabwean robber has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison in South Africa after spending close to 4 years in remand prison.
Faceofmalawi has established from a local publication The Chronicle that, Tarusenga Thomas Chunga who was believed to be part of a syndicate of armed robbers who have been terrorizing motorists between Musina and Makhado Town in Limpopo in South Africa was finally sentenced on Wednesday.
This comes after, he was convicted of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and violating South Africa’s Immigration Act at Musina Regional Court
In addition to the life sentence, Chunga was also separately sentenced to six months in prison for violating South Africa’s Immigration Act.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Chunga was arrested in 2017 in Mahwelereng area under the Waterberg District following a lengthy investigation by our detectives.
Colonel Ngoepe revealed that since his arrest in 2017, he has been in remand prison as he failed to secure bail on numerous occasions.
He added that his accomplices who are still at large had unleashed a reign of terror along the N1 between 2015 and 2017.
Meanwhile, in another separate incident, another Zimbabwean man Blessing Bveni was recently slapped with two life sentences for brutally murdering a hiker and a cyclist in 2018 and a further 33 years for other heinous crimes.
The three sentences are set to run concurrently.
