A Gulewamkulu cult in Mchotseni Village in Mwanza pulled a surprise over the weekend having cheered and donated assorted items to a visually impaired old man in the district.
Often times, the cult has been known for causing havoc and panic among people, a thing the old beneficiary says needs to completely change.
Leader of the cult, Morosoni Singireti, said that he thought of organizing the visit to Gogo Thamisoni, after learning that the man is now suffering in his old age as his family is very poor and cannot afford basic needs.
Singireti said the man had once led the cult but left due to old age.
Among other things, the Gulewamkulu cult members purchased assorted items like soap, relish and his favourite smoking brand, ‘chingambwe’.
Thamisoni expressed gratitude at what the Gulewamkulu and urged other people to emulate what the cult had done.
He said that the items given to him will ease the suffering he had been going through recently as his family had no food at the time they were visited.
He also said time is now for cultural practices to be positive enough for national development.
On top of donating the items, female members of the cult fetched water for the family as well as swept and cleared the compound.
