Court to set date for a ruling in Mpinganjira’s bribery case on Friday

The High Court in Blantyre will on Friday set the date for ruling on whether business tycoon Thomson Mpinganjira has a case to answer in his alleged attempted judge bribery case.

On March 9, 2021, the court failed to convene to deliver its ruling on the matter because the suspect was not able to appear for the hearing due to undisclosed personal reasons.

Registrar of the High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal, Gladys Gondwe, said the court convened with the concerned lawyers on Monday, March 22, via zoom, to discuss the suspect’s ability to appear before the court.

According to information at hand, the Mpinganjira’s lawyers told the court that their client is still ill and cannot appear in court.

Mpinganjira is accused of attempting to bribe judges in the presidential election’s case.
