Man sentenced to life imprisonment for brutally killing an elderly woman

Greytown Regional Court in South Africa sentenced Skhumbuzo Manke Ngema (47) to life imprisonment for murder and 18 years imprisonment for robbery.

On 17 November 2020 just after midnight, an elderly woman Nobele Khalelani Ndebele (80) was asleep in her home at Makhabeleni area in Kranskop, when an unknown man broke into her house.

She was stabbed multiple times on her body with a spear and was declared dead at the scene. She was also robbed of cash by the male that fled the scene after the incident.

Charges of murder and robbery were opened for investigation at Kranskop SAPS.

The docket was allocated to an investigating officer to investigate the matter further and nail the culprit.

This was a hard case to crack, with little information at hand but that did not stop the investigating officer to pursue the matter further.

During the investigation it appeared that the victim was killed by her neighbour.

After four days, the accused was traced and arrested at his place of residence in Makhabeleni.

He was also found in possession of some of the cash that was taken during the robbery.

He was tried in court and he made several court appearances until his sentence.
